About the David Dorn Foundation: Carrying Forward a Hero’s Legacy

About the David Dorn Foundation: Carrying Forward a Hero’s Legacy

Founded by Ann Dorn, retired Sergeant of the St Louis Metropolitan Police Department, and Gary Foster, retired Sergeant and former Paramedic/Firefighter, our organization stands as a beacon of support for our first responders.

With Ann's 28 years of dedicated service and Gary's 32 years of experience, our foundation is built upon a deep understanding of the needs and challenges faced by those who serve our communities. Ann's commitment to officer wellness and Gary's background in emergency services underscore our mission to provide essential equipment and support to those on the front lines.

The foundation's genesis lies in tragedy, with the senseless murder of Ann's husband, Captain David Dorn, during the St. Louis riots in June 2020. David's history and strong reputation in unwavering dedication to his officers and friends inspired Ann to continue his legacy of caring for those who protect and serve.

Together with Gary, they established the Captain David Dorn Foundation in February 2022, driven by the desire to honor David's memory and make a tangible difference in the lives of first responders.

Through our foundation, we aim to bridge the gap in resources, ensuring that our heroes have the high quality tools they need to carry out their duties safely and effectively. We have witnessed firsthand the transformative impact of our donations on the morale and well-being of our fellow first responders.

Join us in honoring David's legacy and supporting our brave men and women in uniform. Together, we can make a difference.

Welcome to The David Dorn Foundation.

Time: 4:02 min.

Senator Josh Hawley:

“This award may be rare, but the exceptional courage and devotion of Officer Dorn is shared by his brothers and sisters in blue who put their lives on the line to keep us safe. Our local law enforcement officers deserve our sincerest gratitude for protecting our communities every single day.”

How to Get the Congressional Medal of Honor:

Each year only five U.S. citizens receive a Congressional Medal of Honor Citizen Honors Award. These five individuals and one organization exemplify the values embodied in the Medal of Honor: courage, sacrifice, commitment, integrity, citizenship, and patriotism.

A panel assembled by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society considers all nominations and selects national finalists. Then a second panel made up exclusively of Medal of Honor Recipients selects individuals from those finalists to receive the Citizen Honors Awards.
